Leather has been used in Japan for a long time. So why American or European style is mainstream in recent years?
It is theory that there was not thought so much because the Kawarabito people (a kind of the lower classes or ranks of living standards and societal positions until Edo era) peeled skin from the corpse and tanned to make leather, and they were avoided from others. However, various robust things, ranging from clogs' nails to samurai armour, were created by them.
Kei Arabuna's leather item, which is inspired by its manufacturing method and materials, and is produced with the unique design and concept of modern times.
Leather dyed like wood grain with natural lacquer and persimmon juice, you can enjoy beautiful glow and change of texture due to aging.

Fermentation of persimmons(Kaki) for several years. A gradation that draws over several layers of natural Japan lacquer(Urushi). Original skills which extracted and produced elements also used for Samurai armour, this is the collaboration of skills which inherited from ancestors.

Based on the impressions gained from those experiences, he asks the concept to the world through music, fashion, design, contemporary art, space installation, and so on. |
